During his 2021 visit to Thirunagar in Madurai, Babu Dilip visited the Perumal temple, a central place of worship for the local community. There, he noticed an incomplete structure beside the temple, stalled at the basement level. The temple committee explained that this building was intended as a Bajanai Madam or community hall, designed to host both religious gatherings and essential family events, including weddings (திருமணம்), ceremonies (சடங்கு), and milestone celebrations like 60th marriage anniversaries (60ம் கல்யாணம்). Unfortunately, due to a shortage of donors, construction had been halted for over four years,
The committee highlighted that the surrounding area comprises many low-income families
who would benefit greatly from an affordable venue. The proposed community hall would
allow them to celebrate important occasions with dignity, in a space that respects their
traditions. Moved by this need, Babu committed to funding the completion of the hall.
He arranged with the committee to ensure that it would be available at minimal rental
rates, free for the poorest members of the community, with all rental proceeds dedicated
solely to maintenance.
With a personal donation of 1.1 crore INR, Babu funded the following amenities:
1. First Floor - Function Hall (3,000 sq. ft.): A spacious area to host
large gatherings,
suitable for weddings, ceremonies, and cultural events, offering ample room for
community celebrations.
2.Second Floor - Dining Hall (3,000 sq. ft.): A dedicated dining area
designed to
accommodate guests comfortably.
3.Toilets: Modern, hygienic restroom facilities for guests'
convenience.
4.Dining Furniture - Tables and Chairs: Adequate furniture for the dining
hall, ensuring
comfortable seating during events.
5.Water Tank: A reliable water supply for smooth operations during
gatherings.
6. Fans and Lighting: Proper ventilation and lighting in both halls to
create a welcoming
and comfortable atmosphere.
This thoughtful contribution not only enhanced the temple’s infrastructure but also
provided a sustainable resource for the local community. It reflects Babu’s philanthropic
vision of providing tangible, practical support that directly benefits those in
need.
By ensuring the hall remains affordable, he has enabled local families to gather, celebrate,
and uphold their cultural rituals in a dignified space. His initiative supports grassroots
development, honoring his commitment to his native community and making a meaningful
impact on the lives of the people in Thirunagar.
