In another impactful initiative, Babu Dilip addressed a long-standing issue affecting the health and well-being of the local community around Sara Middle School and the nearby Bajanai Madam in Madurai. This area had suffered from an open, poorly maintained drain that overflowed with waste and became a site for garbage disposal, creating an unhygienic and unpleasant environment. Given that the drain was situated directly in front of Sara Middle School and next to the Bajanai Madam, where social gatherings and worship activities frequently take place, the condition of the area was not only unsightly but also posed health risks, especially to the students and temple visitors.
Despite repeated requests from the local residents to officials for a new drainage system,
progress was hindered due to a lack of government funding. Recognizing the need for
immediate action to improve the community’s quality of life, Babu decided to step in and
personally contribute to the project.
To bring this project to fruition, Babu contributed 4.5 lakhs of the total 9-lakh budget.
He partnered with நமக்கு நாமே - a community-driven organization that aims to improve
local infrastructure - and collaborated with the Madurai Corporation, which provided the
remaining 50% of the funds. Together, they rebuilt the drain, transforming what was once
a neglected and unsanitary site into a clean and well-maintained public space.
This collaborative effort not only led to the successful construction of a new drain but also
improved the surrounding area, making it healthier and more welcoming for the community.
By taking this initiative, Babu demonstrated his belief in practical, community-centered
solutions and the importance of contributing to projects that enhance public health and
quality of life.
His proactive approach exemplifies how personal responsibility and collaboration can make
a meaningful impact on public infrastructure, creating a lasting benefit for the residents of
Thirunagar and the many visitors to Sara Middle School and the Bajanai Madam.
